Job summary

St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep the high school campus clean and functional, reporting to the Facilities Coordinator and coordinating with the principal to ensure safety and readiness for daily activities.

The role combines custodial tasks with light maintenance, supporting all-year operations. A high school diploma and practical maintenance experience are preferred, with a focus on reliability and teamwork within a Catholic school

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with tools and equipment relevant to facility maintenance.
• Good organizational skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to work autonomously and maintain a professional image.
• Must pass a background check.
• Ability to collaborate with staff and follow school policies.

Responsibilities

• Embrace mission and work in accordance with diocesan and school policies.
• Conduct minor repairs to building systems (locks, plumbing, lighting, HVAC).
• Repair non-building equipment (furniture, scrubbers, laundry machines, kitchen appliances).
• Keep tools and supplies organized and accessible.
• Respond to emergency maintenance needs promptly.
• Maintain cleanliness and functionality of common areas.
• Assist with classroom requests and furniture arrangements.
• Set up and tear down athletic fields, theatre furnishings, and displays.
• Ensure safe outdoor access points and clear fire exits.
• Apply protective coatings to building surfaces as needed.
• Clean cafeteria after lunch and prepare for next use.
• Perform general cleaning (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming) as directed.
• Open and close building for school activities.
• Install wall hangings, signage, lighting fixtures, and sanitary equipment.
• Demonstrate proficiency with hardware, software and applications.
• Read and follow personnel handbook policies.
• Use resources prudently.
• Other duties as assigned.
