Job summary

Houston County Schools is seeking a Custodian to maintain the cleanliness and security of our facilities. The role involves cleaning classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas, and assisting with light maintenance tasks as needed.

Shift schedules are determined by the principal to meet facility needs. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent preferred, with custodial experience and the ability to meet background clearance requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Demonstrated custodial experience preferred.
• Meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

• Maintains building security and policing grounds.
• Cleaning, sweeping, dry mopping floors.
• Cleaning and restocking of restrooms and restroom fixtures.
• Cleaning classrooms and offices, vacuuming carpeted areas, dusting furniture and office machines.
• Cleaning of windows and window sills and removal of debris from the building(s).
• Responsible for buffing/burnishing, stripping, and refinishing of hard surface floors.
• Shampooing, spotting, and extracting carpet.
• Light bulb replacement, HVAC filter service, and other project work.
• Performs and/or assists in an event or special program set-ups and assists faculty and staff as time permits.
• Shifts schedule as determined by the principal and the needs of the facility and performs other duties as assigned.
