Job summary

Richmond County School System is seeking a Custodian to support school facilities maintenance and cleanliness. Under supervision, you will perform building cleaning, grounds care, and related tasks to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff.

The role involves 200 or 235 workdays, manual labor, and adherence to district safety policies. You will work with school personnel and may handle deliveries, equipment, and supplies as needed.

Qualifications

• Education: Eighth grade education. High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Certification or Licensure: None required
• Skills: Knowledge of building and grounds work; operate and maintain custodial equipment; safety tools and practices; monitors spaces for safety; basic emergency procedures; professional and ethical conduct; follow directions; strong organization and delegation; teamwork; safety regulations; care of materials and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Has a positive attitude toward job and customer service.
• Cleans surfaces such as ceilings, chalkboards, counters, lockers.
• Comply with all regulatory mandates.
• Work independently, organize, and manage time with interruptions.
• Assist staff by deliveries, moving furniture, heavy objects.
• Maintain overall condition of building and grounds.
• Safely handle cleaning chemicals and waste; follow regulations.
• Order and maintain supplies and budget for maintenance.
• Operate power mower and clean grounds; use basic maintenance tools.
• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, buff floors; wash walls and fixtures.
• Open/close buildings according to district protocols.
• Follow school procedures and policies; perform additional duties as assigned.
