Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools is seeking a Custodian to maintain clean and safe school facilities. The role requires health certification and the ability to follow cleaning instructions, with responsibilities including daily cleaning, basic maintenance, and adherence to school policies.

The custodian will assist with building openings/closings, manage supplies, and ensure energy efficiency and safety throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
• Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.
• Ability to read simple cleaning instructions.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Keeps buildings and premises neat and clean in assigned areas.
• Regulates heat, ventilation, and AC to maintain comfortable temperatures and conserve energy.
• Checks exit doors and panic bolts during building occupancy hours.
• Sweeps or vacuums classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
• Cleans corridors after school and during the day as needed.
• Cleans toilets, fixtures, and drinking fountains daily; disinfects floors.
• Washes windows inside and outside at least annually.
• Keeps grounds free from rubbish.
• Maintains clean and attractive floors and keeps them in good repair.
• Cleans chalkboards as directed.
• Makes minor repairs as needed; reports others to the principal/director.
• Reports any school property damage immediately to the principal/director.
• Remains on school premises during established work hours.
• Manage opening/closing of the building and ensure doors/windows are secured nightly.
• Keeps supplies inventory and requisitions replacements in advance.
• Moves furniture as directed by the principal/director.
• Complies with local laws for trash storage and disposal.
• Assists with maintaining grounds.
• Is regular and punctual in attendance.
• Performs duties in a manner that promotes good public relations.
• Maintains confidentiality of School System related business.
• Develops and maintains professional relationships with students and employees.
• Performs other tasks assigned by the principal/director.
