Job summary

BelovED Community & Empowerment Academy Charter Schools in Jersey City, NJ seeks a dedicated custodian to perform daily cleaning, restroom sanitation, and facility setup for events. You will assist security during arrivals and dismissals and support maintenance tasks as needed.

The role requires basic computer use for emails and work orders. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, pass a background check, and be able to lift up to 55 pounds.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or G.E.D. is required.
• Able to pass DOE criminal background check.
• Ability to lift 55 pounds to shoulder height occasionally.
• Teamwork and growth mindset.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform major cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, wet-mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash and disinfecting fixtures.
• Clean restrooms, including floors, fixtures and mirrors, and ensure they are disinfected.
• Replace light bulbs, fill dispensers, and set up facilities for events; lift furniture and boxes as needed.
• Climb ladders up to 16 feet to perform maintenance tasks; move items as required.
• Report major repairs to the Head Custodian and assist security during arrival and dismissal.
• Maintain hallway appearance by washing and buffing floors and basic computer literacy (emails, ticket system).
• Paint, perform basic repairs, and assist with school-related setups and breakdowns.
