Job summary

Watertown Public Schools in Watertown, MA is seeking a Payroll Manager to oversee district payroll, benefits deductions, and compliance with applicable laws. This full-time, exempt role reports to the Director of Finance and Operations and requires maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

Responsibilities include processing payroll, reconciling budgets, maintaining employee data, coordinating with Human Resources, and ensuring timely distribution of pay.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance
• 1+ years payroll administration/management experience (municipal or school setting preferred)
• Knowledge of state and federal payroll laws including FLSA, MA Wage & Hour Act, and FMLA

Responsibilities

• Manage and administer district payroll to ensure staff are paid accurately and timely
• Plan and manage payroll-related projects
• Verify time records and make correcting entries before processing
• Reconcile payroll budget accounts and prepare correcting journal entries
• Assist with development of annual compensation budget
• Maintain employee data in payroll system
• Coordinate with Human Resources on confidential staff transactions
• Develop annual pay schedules and distribute them
• Communicate payroll information to staff
• Ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations
• Prepare payroll deductions reports and file timely
• Monitor compliance with federal labor laws including FMLA
• Train team members on payroll operations
• Cover for team during vacations or high-volume periods
• Approve and release manual off-cycle payments
• Assist with annual DESE End of Year Financial Report
