Job description

  • Springfield, MA
  • $200,000 annual salary
  • Day-one health benefits

Alpha is opening a new campus in Springfield and requires a leader who knows the city’s education environment firsthand.

You will manage a team of 15+ Guides who coach and motivate students while Alpha’s EdTech platform delivers all instruction. This is not a traditional Principal position. You will not teach. You will lead, enforce rigorous standards, and use data to build Springfield’s best school from the ground up.

Your objective: guarantee that every student loves attending school, learns at twice the pace of conventional classrooms, and develops essential life skills.

Lead through data. Coach to excellence.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Launch Alpha’s Springfield, MA campus: Ensure Alpha’s three core promises are delivered to 100+ students from day one with operational excellence in every area.
  • Facilitate live life-skills workshops for K-8 students: Lead engaging one-hour sessions covering public speaking, growth mindset, and feedback exchange. Execute Alpha’s playbook to ensure students gain skills traditional schools overlook, while making the experience enjoyable.
  • Drive every student toward 100% goal attainment: Develop personalized motivational strategies for each student. Apply data-driven methods to address resistance and sustain engagement with the Alpha platform. Success is defined by every student meeting their targets.
  • Develop Guides through coaching and uphold Alpha’s performance standards: Leverage data to spot performance deficiencies, provide clear feedback, and monitor progress. Make difficult decisions when performance does not meet expectations and set the standard through personal example.
  • Lead the campus using data-informed decision-making: Evaluate performance in staffing, operations, parent relations, and culture. Identify challenges, perform root cause analysis, engage stakeholders, implement measurable interventions, and track outcomes to refine your approach.
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Teaching or tutoring students. Students progress through Alpha’s self-guided EdTech platform, not through passive instruction from adults.
  • Creating lesson plans or curriculum. Alpha’s playbook is already developed. Your responsibility is execution and leadership, not designing instruction.
  • Overseeing budgets or recruiting staff. Finance and hiring are managed centrally. Your focus remains entirely on campus performance and culture.
  • Serving as the content expert. This position is 80% leadership and engagement, 20% education. You motivate; the platform teaches.
School Director Key Responsibilities

Fulfill Alpha’s three core promises—every student loves school, learns twice as fast, and develops critical life skills—at a new Springfield campus from launch.

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Business, or related field. Master’s preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience in education, learning and development, coaching, business, or related field.
  • Proven track record building and leading teams of at least 15 people with full hiring and firing authority.
  • Deep knowledge of the Springfield, MA education landscape.
  • Experience working with youth ages 5 – 14.
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience using metrics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to transforming education. Conviction that the traditional system is fundamentally broken.
  • Startup mindset: thrives under pressure, adaptable in new situations, comfortable building systems from scratch.
  • Compelling and energetic speaker who commands attention from rooms full of students or staff.
  • Able to relate to K-8 students, understand their interests and culture, and serve as a positive role model.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
