Job summary

Dothan City Schools in Alabama is seeking a Custodian I for a 12-month position. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and prior custodial experience is preferred. Applicants must meet background clearance requirements and be able to lift and move heavy items as part of daily duties.

Responsibilities include cleaning, securing buildings, maintaining floors, and assisting with events. The position is within the system’s compensation plan and follows district schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in custodial work preferred.
• Meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain building security and maintain grounds around your assigned entryways.
• Cleaning, sweeping, wet and dry mopping floors.
• Cleaning and restocking of restrooms and restroom fixtures.
• Cleaning classrooms and offices, vacuuming carpeted areas, dusting furniture and office machines.
• Cleaning of windows and window sills and removal of debris from the building(s).
• Responsible for buffing/burnishing, stripping and refinishing of hard surface floors during summer team schedule.
• Shampooing, spotting and extracting carpet if assigned.
• Provide emergency cleanup for spills.
• Responsible for reporting needs for other repairs and maintenance to office personnel.
• Moves or assists in the moving of heavy furniture, equipment, and objects from room to room, floor to floor, and into or out of buildings if assigned.
• Performs and/or assists in event or special program set-ups and assists faculty and staff as time permits as directed by supervisor.
• Shift schedule as determined by the supervisor and the needs of the facility and performs other duties as assigned.
• Participate successfully in training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
• Participate in cross training activities as required.
• Assume other reasonable job-related duties as assigned by the custodial immediate supervisor, Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
