Job summary

Apple Valley Middle School in Hendersonville, North Carolina, is seeking a Custodian (26-27SY) for a 12-month, full-time position at 8 hours per day. The role reports to the Principal or Assistant Principal and starts immediately, with full benefits.

Responsibilities include cleaning floors and bathrooms, light maintenance, moving furniture, securing buildings, and organizing storage areas. This is a non-exempt, hourly role requiring physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of janitorial methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions and exercise independent judgment.
• High school diploma or equivalency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sweep sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; police grounds and debris; shovels snow or applies de-icing compounds as needed.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax and buff floor surfaces.
• Scrub and clean bathrooms; refill dispensers; disinfect as needed.
• Empty trash; sort recyclable material.
• Dust furniture, walls, window sills and woodwork.
• Clean windows, walls, woodwork and light fixtures.
• Clean drinking fountains; assemble, set up and move furniture as required.
• May open/close buildings and adjust heating/AC as appropriate.
• Unload and store supplies; maintain storage areas.
• Raise and lower flags at start/end of day; perform minor appliance maintenance as able.
