Job summary

Bedford County Public Schools in Forest, Virginia seeks a Custodian to clean and maintain school facilities. This 12-month position requires attention to detail and reliable attendance to support daily operations.

Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms and corridors, securing exits, disinfecting restrooms, disposing waste, and assisting with grounds maintenance. The role opens/closes buildings and reports repairs as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with a clean driving history.

Responsibilities

• Keeps building and premises neat and clean at all times (classrooms, corridors, surfaces).
• Checks exit doors daily to ensure they are secure during school hours.
• Sweeps/vacuums classrooms and dusts daily.
• Cleans corridors after school and as needed during the day.
• Disinfects toilet floors and fixtures daily; cleans drinking fountains.
• Washes windows inside and outside at least twice yearly or as needed.
• Disposes of litter inside and outside the building.
• Reports major repairs to the principal promptly.
• Maintains motors and mechanical equipment on a regular servicing schedule.
• Maintains school grounds (grass, trees, mulching, snow removal).
• Remains on site during school hours and after hours when required by the principal.
• Opens/closes building and secures all doors/windows; turns off lights not needed.
• Moves furniture/equipment as directed by the principal.
• Follows storage/disposal procedures for trash and waste.
• Performs related duties as required.
