Job summary

Fort Madison Community School District is hiring a Custodian to maintain school facilities in operating condition, cleanliness, and safety. The role supports a safe, attractive environment for learning, play, and development.

The custodian will perform daily cleaning, basic repairs, grounds upkeep, and building security tasks, with after-hours availability and occasional weekend work as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in school custodial services or equivalent.
• Proficient knowledge of cleaning equipment and agents.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Physically agile and dexterous.
• Proficient knowledge of basic maintenance repairs.

Responsibilities

• Open and close building each school day and ensure doors/windows are secured.
• Raise/lower flag during school days.
• Maintain cleanliness to provide a healthy, safe, and attractive environment.
• Follow cleaning procedures and policies.
• Carry out scheduled cleaning and preventative maintenance on building equipment.
• Perform basic cleaning tasks (toilets, floors, dusting) daily and manage waste.
• Maintain school grounds (grass cutting, snow removal, sidewalks).
• Report major repairs to the principal promptly.
• Wash windows inside and out at least twice per year.
• Assist in other areas and with other custodians as needed.
• Support building security with routine facility checks.
• Assist visitors and groups as needed.
• Remain on premises during school hours and be available after hours.
