Job summary

Marion P. Thomas Charter School (MPTCS) is seeking Per Diem Custodial Workers to help maintain a clean and safe school environment. Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, offices, restrooms, and hallways, locking doors, and securing the building.

Duties also cover trash disposal, sweeping, mopping, disinfecting sanitary fixtures, and basic grounds maintenance. A high school diploma is required, and a New Jersey driver’s license is needed only if vehicle operation is necessary for duties.

Responsibilities

• Keep buildings and premises neat and clean at all times, including sidewalks and play areas.
• Empties trash, disposes into dumpsters, and bags trash for disposal.
• Unlocks doors and ensures doors are locked after cleaning areas.
• Sweeps and mops classrooms and dusts furniture.
• Cleans corridors.
• Daily cleans and disinfects toilet floors, fixtures, and drinking fountains.
• Keeps grounds free from debris.
• Keeps floors clean and in good condition.
• May assist with snow removal or light maintenance tasks.
• Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

WHO YOU ARE:

Per Diem Custodial Workers play a vital role in upholding a clean and safe school environment. They are responsible for regularly cleaning classrooms, offices, restrooms, and hallways. Key duties include locking doors and securing the building to ensure safety, as well as preparing for special school activities. In addition, they oversee school grounds maintenance, ensuring that all areas are in optimal condition to promote a healthy atmosphere for students, staff, and the community. This position is crucial for fostering a supportive and secure educational experience.

THE ROLE:

• Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
• Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
• Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
• Sweeps and mops classrooms and dusts furniture.
• Cleans corridors.
• Daily cleans and disinfects toilet floors, all sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains.
• Keeps the grounds free from debris.
• Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
• May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

• Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate.
• Applicants will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
