Job summary

Newton Public Schools USD 373 is seeking a Full-time custodian for Newton High School 1st shift (6:30am-3:30pm). The role reports to the Building Principal and Custodial Supervisor and aims to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to meet physical requirements. Duties cover cleaning floors, dusting, restroom sanitation, snow removal, equipment operation, and supporting school activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training acceptable.
• Ability to meet all physical requirements of assigned duties.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for all assigned responsibilities.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be acceptable to the board of education.

Responsibilities

• Keep floors clean and in good condition; maintain preservation.
• Dust and clean furniture and fixtures daily.
• Keep wastebaskets empty and clean.
• Clean chalkboards on scheduled basis.
• Report vandalism or student behavior concerns to supervisors.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and drinking fountains daily.
• Keep grounds free of rubbish; report needed repairs.
• Operate floor care equipment and vacuum cleaners safely.
• Remove snow from entrances and sidewalks.
• Replace light tubes and bulbs; maintain fixtures.
• Operate laundry equipment and perform laundry duties as needed.
• Set up equipment for school and non-school activities.
• Assist with building security at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned by custodial supervisor or administrator.
