Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a reliable School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties at K-12 or higher education campuses. The role involves cleaning classrooms, hallways, restrooms and common areas while following safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has the ability to handle cleaning chemicals and equipment, and to communicate effectively with staff and clients. On-the-job training is provided, and veterans are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No experience required and on-the-job training provided.
• No high school diploma, GED or college degree required.
• Prior customer service experience.
• One year of prior similar work experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned area, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices and stairways.
• Sweep, remove debris, mop floors in designated areas.
• Regularly check trash receptacles and empty as needed.
• Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment to protect floors/fixtures.
• Notify lead cleaner or manager about repair or maintenance needs.
• Establish and maintain communication with clients, coworkers, shift coordinators and managers.
• Sort and dispose of recycling according to recycling programs.
• Dust and clean desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings and walls; polish hard surfaces.
• Wipe tabletops, chairs and equipment in food areas.
• Move cabinets and equipment to clean areas using hand trucks.
• Clean interior partition glass, windows, mirrors with standard cleaners.
• Sweep walkways, rake leaves, remove snow, or perform seasonal tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness of restrooms and ensure sanitation standards.
• Comply with safety, security, compliance and quality standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned area, which may include classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, office, and stairways
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas
• Regularly check trash receptacles, emptying as needed, in all designated areas
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
• Notify lead cleaner or manager concerning the need for minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems
• Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors, managers, etc.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceiling, and walls  Polish hard surfaces, e.g. woodwork, stainless steel surfaces
• Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas
• Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas, either manually or by using hand trucks
• Clean interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
• Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks
• Maintain the cleanliness of restrooms (clean and polish as needed)
• Comply with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the Company, Clients, and regulatory authorities
