Job summary

The City of Murphy is hiring a School Crossing Guard within the Police Department to help keep children safe during school hours by directing pedestrians and vehicles at designated crosswalks. You will work under supervision of the Patrol Commander and support traffic control at Boggess and Hunt Elementary Schools.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and the ability to interact calmly with students, parents, and drivers.

Responsibilities

• Assists children in crossing the street during peak school traffic hours at designated school zone areas
• Regulates vehicular traffic at designated crosswalks to enhance safety
• Establishes rapport with children to enlist their safety cooperation
• Employs proper signals and paraphernalia to control traffic
• Oversees children to ensure they walk in designated crossing areas
• Reports any malfunction of school signals to the Patrol Commander or Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief
• Directs inquiries and concerns of the public to the Patrol Commander or Administrative Assistant
• Maintains a positive, friendly, and effective working relationship with the public and co-workers
• Reports unsafe, hazardous, or perilous conditions to the Administrative Assistant
• Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures

The City of Murphy's Police Department seeks to add a School Crossing Guard to its dynamic team! As our School Crossing Guard, u nder supervision of the Patrol Commander, you will provide traffic control, both pedestrian and vehicular, for designated crosswalks during school traffic hours.

• Directs all inquiries, complaints and concerns of the general public to the Patrol Commander or to the Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief

• Reports any unsafe, hazardous, or perilous conditions to the Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief
• Adheres to the personnel, safety and departmental policies and procedures
