Assist children in entering and exiting schools and crossing roadways. Ensure the safety of the children. Be on the lookout for suspicious persons or vehicles in the area of schools. Smooth and efficient operation of school crossings.
This is a part-time position working approximately 15 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and properly utilize police radio equipment.
- Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
- Use a police whistle to attract the attention of motorists.
- Report missing or defective/damaged street signs and equipment.
- Observe and obtain tag numbers, vehicle descriptions, and driver descriptions of traffic violators and suspicious persons and pass information on to police officers.
- Clear roadway of children when emergency vehicles approach.
- Cross children when traffic is clear and safety allows.
- Stop traffic for children to cross when no other avenues exist for the children to cross.
- Endure verbal and mental abuse when confronted with the hostile views and opinions of others.
- Turn on traffic control devices and/or move signs to the roadway and back out again as needed.
- Perform related functions as assigned.
- Work special events.
- Give directions to citizens.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school graduation or GED.
- Must have a valid Florida driver's license.
- Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
