POSITION SUMMARY

Generalist school counselors in District 86 facilitate a comprehensive counseling program which meets the needs of their assigned students in grades 9-12. School counselors help students evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personal characteristics in order to develop realistic academic and career goals. High school counselors advise students regarding college admission requirements, entrance exams, financial aid, trade or technical schools, and apprenticeship programs. Counselors assist students with personal, family, educational, mental health, and career decisions and problems. School counselors promote and enhance academic, personal, social, and career development of all students.
