School Counselor - Lewiston Middle School

Summary: The School Counselor serves as a member of the school's Social Emotional Learning team within the Response To Intervention (RTI) framework. The School Counselor supports a broad range of social-emotional needs to best position students for academic success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyze student data to identify and support school-wide needs related to social-emotional learning.
  • Implement/facilitate research-informed interventions in large group, small group, and individual settings.
  • Collaborate with and support general education teachers in the delivery of core tier 1 SEL curriculum.
  • Attend RTI meetings and identify level of support needed for students.
  • Identify and develop accommodations and resources for students and teachers and assist in drafting and implementing individual behavior plans.
  • Prepare and follow up on referrals to outside agencies.
  • Engage in restorative work with students, families and classrooms.
  • Engage families in RTI process and problem‑solving.
  • Respond to, evaluate, and make recommendations for students in crisis.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development for staff.
Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience: Masters Degree in school counseling, counseling or social work.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Teaching Certificate with School Counselor Certificate or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW, LMSW‑cc, LCPC, LCPC‑c).

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement therapeutic-based goals, school objectives, and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communications.
