Job summary

An educational institution in New York is seeking a School Counselor to enhance the academic, personal, social, and career development of students. DESCRIPTION

The Department of Special Education at Nassau BOCES is currently seeking a School Counselor. The successful candidate will collaborate with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to enhance the academic, personal, social, and career development of students in their respective grades.

  • Work with students of varying ability levels and provide data regarding student progress.
  • Support the mandates of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for transition programs and services specifically designed for students with disabilities to achieve post‑secondary goals.
  • Expand career pathways by helping students build their academic, technical, and professional skills through work‑based learning experiences.
  • Provide career counseling, planning and participation in Career and Technical Education (CTE) coursework and work‑based learning programs.
  • Implement the mandates of Erin's Law to support social and emotional competencies for all students in school programs.
REQUIREMENTS
  • New York State Education Department Certification: School Counselor.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement data‑driven plans to meet individual student needs.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities at the middle and high school levels is preferred.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency through familiarity in working with students and families of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as proficiency in using Microsoft Office products.
