Citizens of the World Los Angeles is seeking a School Counselor in California to support social-emotional wellness and equity across classrooms. This role partners with teachers and families to implement SEL and IEP/504 plans, fostering a collaborative school climate.

The counselor will provide individual and group counseling, maintain compliant records, and engage with external educational agencies to support at-risk students.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, school psychology, or related field.
• Valid California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential.
• At least two years of experience in school counseling or equivalent elementary setting.
• Experience with diverse student populations, IEP/504 processes, and SPED data systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and Group counseling to support students’ emotional, behavioral, and social development.
• Partner with teachers to implement a schoolwide SEL framework.
• Design and facilitate social-emotional skill-building groups for students needing additional support.
• Contribute to IEPs and 504 plans as appropriate.
• Support faculty in maintaining a coherent program for students’ SEL growth.
• Consult with teachers, staff, and families on student needs and progress.
• Maintain accurate documentation per state and federal regulations.
• Engage with school community and contribute to mission-aligned events and initiatives.

Reporting to the school principal, the School Counselor plays a vital role in creating inclusive and developmentally appropriate programming that supports students’ emotional growth, positive behavior, and academic success. In addition to providing direct services such as individual and group counseling, the School Counselor partners and collaborates with teachers, families, and school leaders to foster a positive school climate.
