Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, school psychology, or related field.
• Valid California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential.
• At least two years of experience working with children in educational counseling.
• Deep understanding of child development and equity-centered practices.
• Experience with diverse student populations, including English learners and students with IEPs.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling services to support student emotional, behavioral, and social development.
• Partner with teachers and staff to build and implement a schoolwide SEL framework.
• Design and facilitate social-emotional learning activities for students needing additional skill-building.
• Contribute to IEPs and 504 plans as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with regulations.
• Collaborate with families and external agencies to support at-risk students and those with IEPs.

CWC’s School Counselor is a compassionate, resourceful, and equity-driven professional dedicated to supporting the social-emotional wellness of all students. Reporting to the school principal, the School Counselor plays a vital role in creating inclusive and developmentally appropriate programming that supports students’ emotional growth, positive behavior, and academic success.In addition to providing direct services such as individual and group counseling, the School Counselor partners and collaborates with teachers, families, and school leaders to foster a positive school climate. They help ensure that each student is seen, heard, and supported, and they work collaboratively to build bridges between school, home, and the broader community.Key Responsibilities:Provide individual and group counseling services to support student emotional, behavioral, and social developmentPartner with teachers and staff to build and implement a schoolwide social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworkDesign and facilitate social study work groups for students who need additional skill-buildingContribute to the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 plans as appropriateSupport faculty in maintaining a coherent program to support student’s social emotional growth both in and outside of the classroomConsult with teachers, staff, and families on student needs and progressMaintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with state, federal, and school regulationsParticipate as an engaged member of the school community, supporting mission-aligned events, initiatives, and collaborationConferring with teachers, school leaders, and other instructional personnel, external educational agencies, to aid in the development of robust, appropriate, educational programming and support to students who are at-risk of failure, not meeting school academic goals, and/or currently being supported by a formal IEP.Maintain student records and appropriate documentation of services providedMaintain a high-level of professionalism including meeting deadlines, and commitments to self, students, and the communityCore CompetenciesEquity & Inclusion Mindset: Demonstrates cultural humility and actively creates inclusive spacesRelationship-Drive: Builds trust with students, families, and colleagues; communicates with empathy and respectCollaboration: Works well in multidisciplinary teams, values feedback, and share expertise generouslyInstructional Partnership: Supports and coaches educators to embed SEL practices in daily instructionAdaptability: Responds with flexibility, calm, and creativity to dynamic school needsConfidentiality & Professional Judgment: Upholds the highest standards of ethical practice, discretion, and complianceData-Driven Practice: Utilizes data to identify student needs and track progress, and adjusts supports accordinglyMaster’s degree in counseling, school psychology, or related fieldValid California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) CredentialAt least two years of experience working with children in an educational counseling setting or relevant elementary gradesDeep understanding of child development and equity-centered practicesDemonstrated experience working in socio-economic, racial, and culturally diverse student populations, including English learners and students with IEPs.Familiarity and experience with Welligent and/or other SPED data systemsExperience with IEP/504 development and implementationEffectively manage and instruct small groups of studentsBelief and willingness to ensure that all students can learn and achieve at high levelsPersonal investment in creating environments in which social emotional learning is the foundation of the cultureMaturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a can-do attitudeExhibits ability to work with children in a caring and respectful manner in order to create a joyful caring classroom environment where instructional time includes community building, conflict resolution, skill-building, and empowering students to be peacemakers and agents for positive social changePreferred Qualifications:Fluency in a second language (ideally Spanish or Korean) is preferred.
