Job summary

Union County Community Action, Inc. is seeking a dependable Cook to prepare nutritious, family-style meals for children and staff in our Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Monroe, NC.

This is a weekday schedule with a consistent 40-hour work week and a starting rate of $13.16 per hour. The position emphasizes a mission-driven environment with opportunities to support the community through nutritious meals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Six months to one year of related food service experience preferred.
• Serve Safe Certification required within six months of employment.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening and TB test, and must submit to random drug screenings.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards.
• Assist with food inventory and supply organization.
• Follow CACFP and program nutrition guidelines.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely.
• Support a positive dining experience for children.

Starting Rate: $13.16 per hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday 6:30am-2:30pm (40 hours/week)

Must be able to stand for extended periods, operate kitchen equipment safely, lift food and kitchen supplies up to 50 pounds, and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
