Job summary

The Shefa School, a K–8 Jewish community day school in Manhattan, is seeking a full-time School Controller for its on-campus Business Office. This 12-month role manages routine accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and internal controls under the CFO’s supervision.

Ideal candidates will have 5–7 years nonprofit/school accounting experience, GAAP expertise, and proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel. Strong communication and organization are essential assets for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• Five to seven years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit or independent school experience preferred.
• GAAP knowledge, financial reporting, account reconciliation, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting activities to ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting, month-end/year-end close, and reconciliations.
• Coordinate annual audit and Form 990 with external auditors/tax advisers.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and analyses for CFO/Head of School.
• Maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures for accurate processes.
• Lead Financial Aid Committee reviews and communicate aid awards and payment plans.
• Coordinate submissions for Government Funding and Foundation Grants.
• Liaise with external parties on accounts receivable/payable matters.
