  • An organized coordinator who can manage schedules, prepare market sites, and maintain accurate records.
  • A welcoming communicator who works effectively with school liaisons, community partners, families, and volunteers.
  • A dependable, hands-on team member who takes initiative and resolves practical challenges.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The School & Community Market Coordinator will coordinate AfriThrive’s food markets at assigned schools and community locations in Prince George’s County. Working closely with school liaisons and community site partners, the coordinator will prepare sites, organize volunteers, support family participation, and ensure a welcoming, dignified market experience.

  • Coordinate assigned market schedules, site access, setup, food displays, replenishment, cleanup, and closeout.
  • Confirm expected participation, food quantities, delivery times, equipment, and supplies with the Program Manager and operations team.
  • Receive and check deliveries, document quantities and quality concerns, and follow safe food handling and storage procedures.
  • Monitor food availability and participant flow, address routine challenges, and promptly elevate shortages, safety concerns, or service disruptions.

2. School, Community & Family Engagement (20%)

  • Collaborate with school liaisons and community site partners on family outreach, registration, reminders, and market arrangements.
  • Welcome participants, explain market procedures, and support an orderly, respectful check-in and shopping experience.
  • Identify participation barriers and communicate language, accessibility, scheduling, and food preference needs to the Program Manager.
  • Gather participant feedback and connect interested families with AfriThrive’s Food as Medicine team and other approved resources.
  • Coordinate volunteer coverage and assignments with the Program Manager and volunteer management staff.
  • Brief volunteers on market procedures, food safety, participant privacy, and respectful service.
  • Provide on-site direction for setup, check-in, food distribution, replenishment, and closeout.
  • Track volunteer attendance and hours and communicate staffing needs and concerns.

4. Data, Documentation & Reporting (25%)

  • Enter timely, accurate records of households and individuals served, repeat participation, pounds of food distributed, and completed household market visits.
  • Review site records for missing information and duplicate entries, resolve discrepancies, and protect participant confidentiality.
  • Submit attendance records, delivery confirmations, inventory balances, and market summaries according to established deadlines.
  • Document participant feedback, incidents, and service issues and provide verified records to support program reporting and invoicing.
