Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a cafeteria/kitchen assistant to prepare and serve meals in the Far Northeast area, ensuring food safety and quality. You will interact with students and staff while contributing to daily operations.

The position offers 20–37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with a starting wage of $20.25 per hour and benefits including health, time off, and PERA retirement. Applicants must reside in Colorado and complete orientation before placement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred.
• Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado.
• Must complete orientation before school placement.

Responsibilities

• Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of foods in accordance with food and safety standards.
• Washes, cuts, cooks and/or re-heats food items, weighing and measuring ingredients, according to recipes and instructions.
• Sets up serving lines and serves meal or meal components.
• Communicates with students and school staff when serving food items.
• Operates cash register, accepting money and making change for food and beverages served.
• Cleans and sanitizes dishes, kitchen utensils, equipment and facilities in accordance with approved housekeeping and safety practices and guidelines; performs related duties.
• Operates kitchen equipment.
• Stocks and organizes food related items and kitchen supplies in refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms.
