Job summary

Owen County Board of Education is seeking a Food Service Assistant to support daily meal preparation and service in the school cafeteria. You will assist with basic cooking tasks, food safety, and cashier duties, ensuring meals are prepared to high standards and served on time.

The role involves working with students and staff, maintaining clean kitchen areas, handling cash transactions, and following health regulations. Position is hourly with schedules set annually by the Board of Education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Good health, demonstrated by passing a pre-employment physical.
• Demonstrated aptitude, competence or training for the assigned responsibilities.
• Must successfully complete the state/local training curriculum before becoming permanently employed.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation of food.
• Serves students and staff from the cafeteria counter.
• Follows directions for storage or disposal of unused food.
• Assists in the daily cleanup of the kitchen and service area.
• Performs major cleaning of refrigerators and storerooms at regularly scheduled intervals as designated by the cafeteria manager.
• Helps create a positive environment for students by being pleasant and cheerful when in contact with the students.
• Other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding employees, individual students and their families.
• Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
• Must complete training course for certification of school food service personnel.
