Job summary

School Nutrition Services is seeking a part-time Food Service Assistant to support meal preparation and service in a school kitchen. The position operates in a warm environment with a 5.5-hour daily schedule, five days a week, starting immediately.

Ideal candidates hold a high school diploma, basic math and reading skills, and strong customer service. Bilingual Spanish is a plus; ability to lift 50 lbs and work under pressure is required for daily tasks.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent required.
• Six months of school cafeteria food prep/serving experience preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform simple math calculations and read/write sentences.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Bilingual skills (Spanish) are a plus.
• Excellent customer service skills required.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepares garnishes and serves food items according to guidelines.
• Follows USDA/state/local guidelines when serving food.
• Receives and stores food in stockrooms and freezers.
• Maintains sanitary conditions per health standards.
• Assists in estimating, ordering, and stocking of food supplies.
• Cleans work areas and kitchen equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
