Job summary

Excelsior Prep Charter School of Miami Gardens, Miami Gardens, FL is seeking a part-time Cafeteria Assistant to support daily meal service, maintain food safety, and ensure a positive dining experience for students and staff. The role runs 9am–2pm, with responsibilities spanning food prep, serving, sanitation, and end-of-day cleanup.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous cafeteria or food service experience preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of basic sanitation, food safety, and kitchen cleanliness practices.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work as part of a team.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Dependability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a school setting and interact appropriately with children and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic food preparation, portioning, packaging, and serving meals and snacks.
• Set up and replenish serving lines, utensils, condiments, and meal items as needed.
• Serve students and staff in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner.
• Follow established sanitation, safety, and food handling procedures at all times.
• Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, serving stations, tables, trays, kitchen tools, and cafeteria equipment.
• Wash dishes, utensils, pans, and other food service items according to established procedures.
• Assist with receiving, storing, rotating, and organizing food and supply deliveries.
• Monitor food temperatures and report concerns to the Cafeteria Manager or supervisor.
• Help maintain orderly meal periods and a clean cafeteria environment.
• Support meal counting, simple recordkeeping, and end-of-day cleanup procedures as directed.
• Work cooperatively with cafeteria staff, school staff, and administrators.
