Job summary

Hampton City Schools is seeking a part-time School Bus Assistant to support drivers, supervise students, and help ensure safety on and off the bus. Responsibilities include assisting with boarding, disembarking, evacuations, and post-trip checks, as well as maintaining vehicle safety equipment and orderly interiors.

The successful candidate will hold a high school diploma or GED, be able to lift up to 50 pounds, sit for long periods, and communicate effectively with staff and students.

Qualifications

• Ability to positively interact and communicate effectively with coworkers, students, parents, and school officials.
• Capacity to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods while assisting with student transport.

Responsibilities

• Assist students boarding and disembarking buses, securing safety equipment as needed.
• Learn routes, schedules, and assist substitute drivers with directions.
• Assist driver in evacuation drills and pre-trip safety inspections.
• Ensure proper release of students to authorized adults; maintain vehicle interior.
• Perform daily post-trip inspections to ensure no belongings are left behind.
• Maintain CPR and first aid certifications; comply with safety policies.
