Job summary

Richmond County School System is seeking a Bus Monitor/Attendant to supervise students on the school bus, enforce safety rules, and support the driver throughout routes. The role requires attendance, routine route knowledge, and clear communication with school staff and parents.

The position emphasizes safety, student management, and adherence to Board policies, with training provided. Candidates should be prepared for on-bus responsibilities and collaborative work with Transportation Department

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• A valid state-issued driver’s license and completion of a Bus Monitor / Attendant training program.
• Must successfully complete a training program for safe bus operations and student management.
• Prior related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Have punctual attendance. The monitor is on the bus from first pick-up to last drop-off.
• Ensure all students are seated and buckled when required.
• Maintain order and visual supervision of all students from the rear of the bus.
• Learn the route to guide a substitute driver when needed.
• Inspect seats for damage or items left by students after each run.
• Be familiar with emergency equipment, evacuation plans, and route details.
• Intervene when necessary to ensure student safety and report incidents promptly.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and work professionally with staff.
