Job summary

Pender County Schools is seeking a Bus Assistant (Monitor) to support the driver in delivering safe, orderly student transportation. Responsibilities include supervising students, assisting those with mobility needs, securing equipment, and following district safety policies.

The role emphasizes EC support, confidentiality, and collaboration with staff to ensure compliant transportation for students with disabilities or medical needs.

Qualifications

• Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
• Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid and other training as designated by the district.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the bus driver in maintaining a safe and orderly environment on the bus.
• Supervise student behavior during transportation to and from school and activities.
• Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including those with mobility needs.
• Secure wheelchairs, seating, seat belts, and safety equipment as required.
• Provide assistance to students with disabilities or medical needs per district guidelines.
• Monitor conduct and report incidents to the bus driver and transportation department.
• Support emergency procedures and follow safety protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and transportation personnel.
• Participate in required training and meetings; perform other duties as assigned.
• Provide direct EC student support per IEPs and procedures.
