Job summary

Route Assistant at Illinois School District U-46 provides a safe environment for students and supports the bus driver with student safety and discipline. You will uphold professionalism and service while performing duties on the school transportation route.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent, bilingual Spanish/English preferred, and prior experience with children or customer service. This is a 10-month position with hourly wage of $21.10 and board-set benefits.

Qualifications

• Must be safety oriented and able to maintain student discipline.
• Excellent communication with students, parents, and staff.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Prior experience with children or customer service is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enforce and adhere to all mandatory safety regulations of transported students.
• Maintain student behavior and report violations to the appropriate authorities.
• Support and assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the assigned vehicle.
• Inspect the bus before each operation for student safety equipment, complete necessary reports, and notify proper authority of safety equipment absence or mechanical failure.
• Transport only authorized students; discharge students at authorized stops only.
• Inspect the inside of the bus following each run and prior to exiting the bus for sleeping children and/or forgotten articles.
• Report all accidents/incidents and complete the required paperwork.
• Other duties as assigned.
