Job summary

Manhattan-Ogden USD383 seeks a School Bus Monitor to support safe student transportation, assist with loading and unloading, and reinforce positive behavior on routes in the USD 383 Transportation Department. The position suits retirees, students, or those seeking a flexible schedule with part-time hours.

Hires work mornings and afternoons, approximately 6 hours per day, with some additional hours possible on noon routes or other departments. Reports to the Director of Transportation.

Qualifications

• Assist students in loading/unloading onto the bus.
• Monitor student behavior and reinforce positive conduct during transport.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate with family and staff as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist young or special education students in getting on and off the bus.
• Assist the bus driver with maintaining discipline and monitoring students while the bus is in operation.
• Ensure the responsible adult meets students leaving the bus as required.
• Communicate with drivers, teachers, aides and parents concerning student medical needs and behavior as appropriate.
• Document student information in collaboration with the bus driver and note seating arrangements as assigned.
• Understand and relate to students with special needs.
• Teach students proper vehicle safety lessons and use of seat belts/handrails as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the bus driver.

Your responsibilities will include assisting in student loading and unloading, reinforcing positive behaviors during transport, and maintaining accurate documentation. Location: USD 383 Transportation Department.

Salary

• $12.00 - $14.00/hr.

Placement within this range is based on relevant qualifications, including prior experience, education, and applicable certifications (e.g., bachelor's degree, advanced certification, bilingual proficiency, etc.).

Hours Per Day

• Mornings - 6:00am 9:00am.
• Afternoons - 2:00pm 5:00 pm.
• Average of 6 hours a day/30 hours a week.
• Possible additional hours with noon routes and/or working for another department.

Reports To: Director of Transportation. Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.

Job Duties

• Consult with bus driver in the documentation of student information and possibleassigned seating.
• Understand and relate to students with special needs.
• Be able to teach students proper vehicle safety lessons.
• Utilize car seats and harness clasps, seat belts and wheelchair security as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the bus driver.
