Job summary

Hamilton Township School District Mercer County in New Jersey seeks a dedicated School Bus Driver for the 2026-2027 school year. A High School Diploma or equivalent and a valid NJ Class B CDL with S and P endorsements are required, along with a clean driving record.

Schedule is 7 hours/day, 5 days/week, 10 months/year. You will transport students safely, maintain discipline, perform pre/post vehicle checks, and adhere to state regulations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid NJ Class B CDL with S & P endorsements.
• Good health and sufficient vitality to perform duties.
• Demonstrated aptitude for assigned responsibilities.
• Minimum 3 years previous safe driving experience.
• 3 years experience operating a school bus or commercial vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Obeys all traffic laws and NJ State Regulations for School Buses.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus and reports incidents.
• Keeps assigned bus clean.
• Keeps to the assigned bus schedule.
• Checks bus before each operation for defects and maintains required paperwork.
• Notifies admin in case of mechanical failure and lateness.
• Check bus after every run for students and/or items.
• Pick up/discharges students only at authorized stops.
• Exhibits responsible leadership on district trips.
• Transports only authorized students.
• Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
• Enforces no smoking and no eating on the bus.
• Performs duties as may be assigned.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Obeys all traffic laws. Observes all mandatory State of NJ Regulations for School Buses.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus. Reports disciplined issuesto the proper administrative personnel.
• Keeps assigned bus clean.
• Keeps to the assigned bus schedule.
• Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects and maintains all required paperwork.
• Notifies the proper administrative personnel in case of mechanical failure and lateness.
• Check bus after every run for students and/or items.
• Pick up/ discharges students only at authorized bus stops.
• Exercises responsible leadership when on district school trips.
• Transports only authorized students.
• Reports all accidents and complete required reports.
• Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus
• Performs such duties as may from time to time be assigned.

Effective: 2026-2027School Year

Salary: $46,176per year

In addition to the base salary, eligible employees receive a comprehensive benefits package:
including medical/vision, prescription and dental insurance, and paid time off. Will be entered into the appropriate NJ Pension Program.
