Job summary

Elkin City Schools is seeking a dedicated Bus Driver Substitute in Elkin, North Carolina. Reports and records must be maintained according to Transportation instructions.

The position requires a valid North Carolina CDL with school bus certification. Graduation from high school is required, with prior experience driving large vehicles preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and some experience driving large vehicles with some experience in transporting humans preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
• Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with school bus certification.
• Knowledge and abilities include safety, discipline, and effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
• Position requires ability to operate a school bus and adhere to transportation operating procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and documents inspections as required by Transportation Department Operating Instructions.
• Reports mechanical defects or failures to the supervisor or mechanic.
• Operates the assigned school bus on the route(s) and schedule provided by the Zone Transportation Supervisor.
• Maintains discipline of students and ensures safety procedures during transport.
• Keeps the bus clean and secure, completes time cards and required reports.
• Transports only authorized students and follows all traffic laws and school bus regulations.
