Job summary

Onslow County Public Schools Transportation is hiring a School Bus Driver in Jacksonville, NC. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and six months of licensed driving experience. Beginning date is open until filled, with a 10-month term and a minimum hourly rate of $17.47.

You will transport students safely along assigned routes and complete required trainings. Applicants must meet DMV and background checks, maintain a clean driving record, and pass drug testing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have at least six months of driving experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess a valid NC Driver's License and a good driving record.
• Must submit to a preemployment background check.
• Must submit to preemployment, as well as random and post-accident, drug testing.
• Must possess good moral character.
• Must maintain a professional appearance at all times.
• Must attend and successfully complete classroom (virtual) and behind the wheel training conducted by DMV personnel.

Responsibilities

• Transport students to/from school along stops along established routes.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, employees, equipment, and property.
• Obey all federal, state, and local laws.
• Adhere to provisions of the Pupil Transportation Regulations and the School Bus Driver Handbook.
• Maintain knowledge of assigned routes and students assigned to bus.
• Supervise students and maintain discipline on the bus.
• Ensure students stay in seats while bus is in operation.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and report any damage or malfunctions.
• Clean and sanitize interior of the bus and exterior as needed.
• Report traffic violations and accidents promptly.
• Report injuries and discipline problems promptly.
• Ensure no student is left alone on bus without adult supervision.
