Job summary

Benton Harbor Charter School Academy is seeking a dedicated School Bus Driver to transport students safely between home, school sites, and field trips. You will follow established routes, supervise loading and unloading, and maintain discipline and safety on the bus.

Ideal candidates will meet DOT and Michigan education requirements, hold a valid CDL with appropriate endorsements, and demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and strong communication with staff, students, and families.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet all requirements established by the Department of Transportation and Michigan Department of Education.
• Valid driver’s license with necessary endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Safely operates a school bus according to designated time schedules for transporting students to and from various destinations.
• Supervises loading and unloading of students, ensures safety belt usage, and releases students to authorized individuals.
• Maintains order and discipline among passengers, handles disputes, and documents incidents as needed.
• Conducts accident investigations as required and reports issues promptly.
• Keeps bus clean and in good repair, reports mechanical issues, and performs routine maintenance tasks.
• Collaborates with parents, supervisors, and staff to optimize drop-off and pickup schedules and adjust routes as needed.
• Follows routing and scheduling, reviews bus stop locations, and ensures safety.
