Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking school bus drivers to join our team and safely transport students to and from school. No prior experience required; you will be paid while you train for your CDL and you may qualify for full-time benefits.

Starting pay is $25.10 per hour (up to $32.84 with CDL experience). Benefits include Virginia Retirement System, health/dental/life insurance, paid leave, and flexible spending accounts.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of state and local school bus operation, laws and regulations and county geography.
• Working knowledge of first aid procedures including CPR.
• Demonstrated ability to operate a large vehicle safely and punctually in all weather conditions, using safe and defensive driving methods.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain bus discipline and relate well to children, parents and staff and to provide constant attention and assistance to a number of children at the same time, including children with special health conditions or disabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting children.
• Demonstrated ability to give and follow instructions, work well under stressful conditions or emergencies and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate school buses and maintain a regular schedule.
• Perform daily safety inspections of the vehicle and equipment.
• Assist students on to or out of the vehicle and enforce safety regulations.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.
• Report incidents or injuries to school officials.
• Complete required training per state and federal law and district policies.
• Provide basic first aid as necessary.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
