Job summary

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older.
• Valid Maryland CDL driver's license with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (s) endorsement and a clean record.
• Ability to pass a health exam.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
• Knowledge of Maryland vehicle codes, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to operate school buses with manual and automatic transmissions and an air brake endorsement.
• Ability to read maps and street signs.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain records and complete required forms.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school, field trips, and other educational activities.
• Conduct daily inspections of the bus to check tires, lights, and other systems, and perform basic preventive maintenance.
• Ensure children wear seatbelts and safety belts, assist students with disabilities, and maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus.
• Follow established routes and schedules, adjust for traffic and detours, and communicate any issues to supervisors.
• Maintain daily vehicle reports, record student information, and submit accident and traffic delay reports accurately.
• Develop and follow emergency evacuation plans for all students, especially those with disabilities.
• Effectively communicate with students, parents, and school officials to resolve problems and ensure smooth transportation.
