Job summary

Compass Transportation is seeking School Bus Drivers for Gary, Indiana routes. We offer paid CDL training at no cost and immediate opportunities, with a signing bonus for CDL class B drivers with school bus endorsements.

You will transport students safely on AM and PM routes, perform pre-trip checks, maintain a clean bus, and attend required trainings. Minimum 25 hours weekly, with potential up to 40 hours depending on routes.

Qualifications

• Must pass background check and drug screening.
• Possess Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements.
• Valid U.S. (IL) driver’s license held for at least 3 years with no suspensions.
• Willingness to work morning and afternoon routes as assigned.
• Minimum 25 hours per week, up to 40 hours depending on routes.
• Bring a copy of your MVR to the interview.

Responsibilities

• Drive the school bus safely following traffic laws and company rules.
• Keep students safe and comfortable during the ride.
• Stick to assigned AM & PM routes and schedules for pickups and drop-offs.
• Check the bus before and after each trip and ensure proper operation.
• Keep the bus clean and tidy inside.
• Communicate professionally with students, parents and school staff.
• Participate in required trainings and meetings.

Responsibilities and Duties:

As a School Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, following a designated route and schedule. Your primary duties and responsibilities will include:

• Drive the school bus safely following traffic laws and company rules.
• Keep students safe and comfortable during the ride.
• Stick to assigned AM & PM routes and schedules for pickups and drop-offs.
• Check the bus before and after each trip to make sure it's working well.
• Keep the bus clean and tidy inside.
• Speak professionally with students, parents, and school staff.
• Handle any concerns with student behavior calmly and politely.
• Go to required training and meetings.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Clean background
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening
• Valid U.S. (IL) driver’s license held for at least 3 years with no suspensions
• Class B CDL License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements (paid training available at no cost to you if you don’t yet have a CDL)
• Willingness to work morning and afternoon shifts as assigned
• Available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week, up to 40 hours depending on route assignments
• Willing to work on charter trips as needed
• Please bring a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) to the interview
