Job summary

Garrett-Keyser-Butler CSD is seeking a full-time School Bus Driver in Garrett, IN to transport students along established routes across 183 days per year. Starting date is immediate and requires a valid Indiana CDL with a safe driving record.

The driver will pick up and discharge students on time, maintain order, perform daily safety inspections, and coordinate with the Transportation Director on stops and schedules.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Indiana CDL and driving prerequisite.
• Drug test required for employment.
• Passing state skill and written tests required.

Responsibilities

• Pick up and discharge students on time, observe legal and defensive driving practices in all weather and road conditions.
• Maintain order and discipline among passengers and enforce bus rules.
• Conduct daily safety inspections of buses and report mechanical issues.
• Collaborate with Transportation Director to establish and maintain bus stops and schedules.
• Keep buses clean and in safe operating condition.
• Assist with loading/unloading students and wheelchair lifts as needed.
• Operate a two-way radio.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.

SUMMARY:

Drives bus to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule. Complies with traffic regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:

• Pick up and discharge students in accordance with established time lines; observe legal and defensive driving practices, in all weather elements and road conditions
• Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus; report behavior issues to appropriate personnel; assure student understanding of bus rules
• Conduct required daily safety inspections of buses; inspect interior, exterior and engine of buses to assure safe operational condition; report mechanical malfunctions or other problems as needed
• Collaborate withTransportation Directorin establishing and maintaining student bus stops and transportation schedules
• Maintain buses in a clean and safe operating condition
• Load and unload students as required; utilize and assist students with wheelchair lifts as needed
• Operates a two-way radio
• Perform related duties as assigned by the transportation Directorto meet the particular needs of the Corporation
• Other duties may be required or assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Indiana Commercial Driver’s License. Must pass physical with drug test. Passing of State skill test and written test are required.
