Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

Essential Job Functions

Obey all traffic laws.
Observe all mandatory safety regulations.
Maintain student discipline on bus and follow behavior management guidelines adopted by the Transportation Department.
Report undisciplined/unruly students to the proper authority.
Keep assigned bus clean.
Efficiently follow the assigned schedule.
Inspect bus before each operation for mechanical defects and safety concerns.
In case of mechanical failure or tardiness, notify the proper authority of issue(s) in a timely manner.
Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops.
Exercise responsible leadership while performing school trips.
Transport only authorized students.
Report all accidents and complete required reports.
Abide by township policies to include guidelines listed in the Transportation Center Policy/Procedures Manual.
Report all infractions to the Director of Transportation.

Travels to and from school district buildings, to vehicle service stations, field trip locations and other destinations are required.

Pay Rate

$25.23 per hour

Work Schedule

Full Time – 30-40 hours per week – 182 days.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of all traffic laws, regulations, road signs and related information.
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre‑trip inspections, and clean the bus.
Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Effective organizational, problem solving, and time‑management skills.
Ability to learn and comprehend information from procedures manuals and other materials.
Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs required.
Ability to physically move through the bus.
