Job summary

Western Line School District Transportation & Safety in Avon, Mississippi seeks a School Bus Driver to provide safe and reliable student transportation. The role requires meeting CDL requirements, completing MDE training, and passing drug screening.

You will report to the Principal and Transportation Director and help maintain an orderly, safe bus environment. The position is Full-Time for 180 days a year, with salary to be established by the Board.

Qualifications

• CDL requirement to operate school buses.
• Completion of MDE (Mississippi Department of Education) training.
• Successful completion of drug testing per district policy.

Responsibilities

• Obeys all traffic laws.
• Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority using school procedures.
• Keeps assigned bus clean and maintained.
• Keeps to the assigned schedule.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of the bus.
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical issues or lateness.
• Transports only authorized students and discharges them at authorized stops.
• Participates in staff development training as scheduled.

Job Goal:

To provide safe and efficient transportation so that the student may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular program.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Obeys all traffic laws.
• Observes all mandatory safely regulations for school buses.
• Maintains discipline when students are on bus.
• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority using appropriate school procedures/reporting procedures.
• Keeps assigned bus clean.
• Keep to assigned schedule.
• Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
• Performs Pre- and Post-trip inspections of the bus.
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharges students only at authorized stops.
• Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
• Transports only authorized students.
• Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
• Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
• Attends staff development training as scheduled.
• Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal and/or superintend may from time to time assign.

Terms of Employment:

180 days a year. Salary to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
