Job summary

Kemper County School District is seeking a Bus Driver to provide safe transportation for students starting from the Kemper County Superintendents Office. You will operate the school bus on an assigned daily schedule and conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure reliability and safety.

Qualifications include a Class C CDL with P and S endorsements, a clean driving record, ability to pass required training, background checks, drug screening, and a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

  • A satisfactory driving record to include no more than two (2) traffic violations in the past three (3) years.
  • A satisfactory employment record
  • Currently possess or be willing to obtain a Class C Commercial Drivers License with a “P” and “S” endorsement.
  • High School diploma or its equivalent
  • Must be able to pass all required training required by the school district and the Mississippi Department of Education
  • Must pass police background records check
  • Must be insurable by local district insurance carrier
  • Must be able to perform preventative maintenance checks
  • Have no known medical history or clinical diagnosis of any condition that could be detrimental to the safety if the students that will be transported
  • Must be willing to submit to and pass drug screening
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be willing to submit to a Department of Transportation “physical” examination.

Responsibilities

  • Obeys all traffic laws.
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintains discipline and safety, within the legal limits, while students are on the bus.
  • Reports uncontrolled students to the proper authority.
  • Keeps assigned bus clean at all times.
  • Operates school bus on an assigned schedule daily.
  • Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
  • Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Picks up and discharges students at authorized bus stops only.
  • Exercises responsible leadership on out-of-district school trips.
  • Transports only authorized students.
  • Reports all accidents and completes required reports immediately.
  • Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
  • Performs a minimum of two (2) school bus evacuation drills each school term, using appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Attends required in-service training.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned by director.
