TITLE: Bus Driver
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A satisfactory driving record to include no more than two (2) traffic violations in the past three (3) years.
- A satisfactory employment record
- Currently possess or be willing to obtain a Class C Commercial Drivers License with a “P” and “S” endorsement.
- High School diploma or its equivalent
- Must be able to pass all required training required by the school district and the Mississippi Department of Education
- Must pass police background records check
- Must be insurable by local district insurance carrier
- Must be able to perform preventative maintenance checks
- Have no known medical history or clinical diagnosis of any condition that could be detrimental to the safety if the students that will be transported
- Must be willing to submit to and pass drug screening
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age
- Must be willing to submit to a Department of Transportation “physical” examination.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
JOB GOAL: To assist in providing safe transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular program.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Obeys all traffic laws.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintains discipline and safety, within the legal limits, while students are on the bus.
- Reports uncontrolled students to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned bus clean at all times.
- Operates school bus on an assigned schedule daily.
- Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Picks up and discharges students at authorized bus stops only.
- Exercises responsible leadership on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports immediately.
- Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
- Performs a minimum of two (2) school bus evacuation drills each school term, using appropriate emergency procedures.
- Attends required in-service training.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections.
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned by director.
