Job summary

First Student is hiring a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair school buses at our Eastpointe shop, with a Monday–Friday day shift 6:00am–2:00pm. You will help keep students safe and on time, supported by company-paid training and a comprehensive benefits package.

The role offers opportunities for ASE testing, CDL Class B training, and advancement across 540 locations in the U.S. and Canada, with paid holidays and boots allowances.

Qualifications

• At least 3+ years of diesel or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or equivalent technical school education and experience.
• Vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment—Company paid training provided.
• Possession of a mechanic’s tool set to complete all assigned duties.
• Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and bonuses provided).
• Strong computer skills.
• DOT drug testing safety-sensitive role per DOT regs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses for safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and perform vehicle maintenance including brakes, engines, suspensions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
