Job summary

Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind - ASDB is seeking a dedicated bus chaperone in Tucson to assist drivers and supervise students on routes. The role requires physical fitness, good communication, and the ability to read and write English.

This is a safety-sensitive, permanent, 30-hour/week position with FBI/state background checks and required certifications. ASDB offers a supportive team environment and opportunities to contribute to student safety and well-being on daily bus

Qualifications

• Must pass FBI and State background checks.
• Positions working directly with students require CIT training, CPR and First Aid certification.
• Post-offer physical must be passed.
• ASL skills if working with deaf staff/students.

ASDB Chaperones

assist drivers as a team, interacting with the driver and students

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION

This position requires pre-employment drug testing and is subject to random drug testing contingent on successful results for the duration of employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Ensure students are safely seated throughout the bus route
• Work with parents and staff regarding specific methods of assistance
• Individual positions may be responsible for some or all of the listed duties and/or
• other related duties

KNOWLEDGE OF

• Policies, procedures, and programs of the immediate work unit.
• Principles and practices of administration and management.
• Agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures.

SKILLED IN

• Proper lifting procedures
• Working with sensory impaired children
• Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in a word-related document

ABILITY TO

• Communicate information and ideas effectively so others will understand

SPECIAL CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to pass FBI and State background checks.

• Training, CPR, and First Aid certification
• Must be able to pass post-offer physical
• ASL (American Sign Language) skills if working with deaf staff/students
• Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel who
• drive on state business
