Job summary

Washington County Public Schools is seeking a School Bus Attendant for Bus 557, serving Rockland Woods Elementary, Paramount Elementary, Ruth Ann Monroe Primary, and Eastern Elementary Schools. Location is Transportation Office, parking at 820 Commonwealth Avenue.

The position is a Special Education bus assignment with an 8-hour day on a 10-month calendar. Reporting to the Supervisor of Transportation, it requires a certified WCPS bus attendant, a clean background, and physical ability to lift

Qualifications

• Completed WCPS pre-service training for bus attendants.
• Meets Maryland in-service requirements for continued employment as a bus attendant.
• No criminal record that makes the individual unfit for employment.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform essential duties with/without accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with pupil accountability.
• Assist the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
• Assist students getting on and off the bus.
• Load, unload and secure students using wheelchairs or other equipment as needed.
• Provide written record of violations to driver and school staff.
• Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders.
• Perform other bus attendant duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Completed the Washington County Public School's pre-service training program for bus attendants.
• Current certified school bus attendant with WCPS.
• Meets the Maryland State Department of Education in-service requirements for continued employment as a school bus attendant.
• No evidence of a criminal record, which makes the individual unfit for employment as a school bus attendant.
• Regular and predictable attendance which is an essential function of this position.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

• Ability to make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
• Demonstrate an ability to work with students with disabilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with staff, students and the community.

Role Responsibilities

• Assist with pupil accountability.
