The City of Charlottesville is seeking a School Bus Aide to ensure the safety and conduct of students during transportation. This part-time position offers starting pay of $19.65 per hour and includes various benefits such as paid holidays and health insurance options. Pupil Transportation's goal is to provide dependable, efficient, and safe transportation service. The School Bus Aide performs routine human support work monitoring the conduct of students on school buses and assisting with discipline and safety; does related work as required. The work is primarily done under direct supervision, within one functional area, and of a routine nature.
Starting pay is $19.65 an hour. The starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a part-time position, 20-29 hours per week, non-exempt, and eligible for pro-rated benefits. Some knowledge of proper conduct of students on school buses, skill in observing and enforcing rules, ability to establish effective relationships with riders, and remain calm in stressful situations. Standard work environment. Occasional lifting of at least fifty pounds is required. Work may involve inside and outside bus environments and physical activities such as sitting for long periods, overhead reaching, bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing to assist in evacuations or inspections. Must be able to secure wheelchairs safely and meet physical requirements for emergency situations. Contact with supervisors, drivers, passengers, administrators, and the public is expected.
