Qualifications

• Must be able to regularly attend work on time.
• Capable of understanding written and oral instructions.
• Able to operate and maintain custodial equipment.
• Must perform physical tasks and handle demanding work.
• Willing to learn the proper use of cleaning products.
• Capable of climbing ladders for cleaning and lighting tasks.
• Able to work flexible schedules.
• Able to work cooperatively with staff, students, and the public.
• Able to recognize and report hazards and follow safe work methods.
• High school graduation or equivalent is required.
• Preferred: Custodial experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean and shampoo rugs and carpets.
• Clean floors by vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, polishing, or scrubbing.
• Dust, polish woodwork, furniture, glass, and other surfaces.
• Service soap dispensers, towel boxes, and similar containers.
• Empty and clean wastepaper baskets and other containers.
• Clean chalkboards, trays and erasers.
• Move and adjust chairs, desks, tables, supplies, furniture, and equipment.
• Strip, seal, and wax floors.
• Remove spots and graffiti from floors, walls, woodwork, furniture, carpets, and fixtures.
• Wash and scrub walls, lavatory fixtures, windows, drink­ing fountains, drains, lights, and painted surfaces.
• Shovel, plow, or sand walks and driveways as needed.
• Operate power sweepers, polishers, and other power equipment.
• Perform grounds-keeping tasks to maintain safe school grounds.
• May assist with moving or assembling furniture or equipment in emergencies.
• Adhere to safety standards and perform other duties as assigned.
