Job summary

NORY is seeking a School Break Day Camp Staff Development Coach to train and empower camp leaders and teachers. You will observe, mentor, and develop Site Leaders and teachers across NYC/Brooklyn school-break camps, enhancing staff performance and ensuring a safe, engaging camp experience for children aged 3-12.

Lead coaching initiatives, collaborate with headquarters teams, and help scale our summer program through strong staff development and protocol compliance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in educational leadership, particularly in managing and training teaching staff (5+ years).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster relationships with teachers, parents, and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to implement effective teaching strategies and improve educational outcomes.
• Knowledgeable in child development and adapting teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities

• Observe, train, and coach Site Leaders and teachers to enhance performance and create a positive learning environment.
• Mentor Site Leaders on coaching techniques and support staff development.
• Ensure protocols and safety standards are consistently implemented at camps.
• Provide guidance on behavior management and parent communication when needed.
• Collaborate with curriculum, operations, and customer happiness teams to improve staff support.

About The Role:

We are seeking a School Break Day Camp Staff Development Coach to train and empower camp leaders and teachers. Starting with fall school-break programs, you will observe, mentor, and develop Site Leaders and teachers at NORY’s School Break Day Camps on select school breaks and days when schools are closed throughout the school year. You will partner with Site Leaders to strengthen staff performance, support consistent implementation of NORY protocols, and create a positive, safe, and engaging camp experience for children ages 3-12. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in training, coaching, and managing educational teams, with a proven ability to enhance staff performance and foster growth. Summer Camp is NORY’s largest operation, serving over 6,000 children every year across 15+ locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Boston. Based on performance and availability, School Break Day Camp Coaches may also be considered to continue in a coaching role during our Summer 2027 programs, from June through August.

Responsibilities:

• Staff Development and Support: Observe, train, and coach Site Leaders and teachers at School Break Day Camps to enhance their performance and foster a positive, supportive learning environment. Analyze feedback to set specific coaching goals, assess staff performance, and provide constructive feedback that strengthens teaching strategies and camp experiences.

• Strategic Coaching and Collaboration: Mentor School Break Day Camp Site Leaders on effective coaching techniques and partner with them to develop and support teachers and other educational staff.

• Quality Assurance and Protocol Compliance: Ensure NORY protocols are consistently implemented at School Break Day Camps, maintaining high standards for safety, staff performance, and the camper experience.

• Behavior and Special Needs Support: Provide guidance to Site Leaders and teachers on effective behavior management and communication with parents when needed.

• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Actively communicate with headquarters teams, including curriculum, operations, and customer happiness, to improve support for staff at School Break Day Camps.

Compensation:

• Compensation: $20 - $50/hr (10-20 hours per week)

• Benefits: 401K Plan available to eligible employees.

School Break Day Camp Schedule:

School Break Day Camps take place on select school breaks and days when schools are closed throughout the school year, including Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, Memorial Day, and more. Camp dates and locations vary across Manhattan and Brooklyn. This role focuses on coaching and supporting staff during these School Break Day Camps.
